Filming Documentary in Brazil

Mark Albini, director and producer at Bahhama Jeff Media, from New York (US), has partened with FixerBrazil.com to shoot his documentary for SPG lawyers company, a film about the victims of Mariana Dam that colapsed in 2015, in Minas Gerais State.

Interview with Monica, whose house was buried by the mud.

This project was a documentary road-movie style: starting in Bento Rodrigues (MG), the city destroyed by the mud of the dam, along Rio Doce, which had it’s waters contaminated by the toxic waste, all the way to Regência (ES), where the river meets the sea.

Guarani indigenous in Espirito Santo state.

Mariana Dam colapse is the biggest environmental crime that ever happened in Brazil, which also killed 19 people, has contaminated more than 800km of Rio Doce, affecting the life of thousands of people.

Great lunch at the Indigenous land of Guaranis.

Mark decided to shoot with the reliable Sony FS7, having theA7Sii as B Camera, plus the great DJI Mavic 2 Pro, and a Bolex for some 16mm film to give a different look at the films.

Filming in Brazil for Volvo Penta

Fixer Brazil and OTW, a content agency from Sweden, partnered to produce the Brazilian episode of Volvo Penta Boating Dreams series.

Crew filming with Tony Osse

Shot in São Paulo, Barueri and Ubatuba, the episode showcases the Osse family building their own boat to travel from Brazil to Alaska.

Sailing at Ubatuba

Kerstin, the producer, and Ake, the DP, traveled from the cold Gothenburg to São Paulo to join Tomaz, the Fixer, Clara, sound recordist, and Felipe, the driver. We had two days of shooting in São Paulo and Barueri, at Osse’s place, and two days in Ubatuba, at the beautiful Saco da Ribeira beach and surroundings.

Tomaz, from Fixer Brazil and 10e20 Filmes, was in charge of drone aerial shots with the Mavic Air, following all regulations from ANAC – National Civil Aviation Agency.

Filming in Rio de Janeiro – Fixer Brazil

Filming in Rio de Janeiro.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the most known cities in the world. Filmmakers come from all over the world after its famous beaches like Ipanema and Copacabana.

RioDeJaneiro1

They also come after its many unspoiled beaches, the Favelas and it’s local communities, the Carnival, Tijuca National Park, the Funk Carioca, and much more. But what really makes Rio de Janeiro special it is the unique culture, which is unlike any other in the world.

Filming in Rio has its challenges. To film in the National Parks it is important to get permits from the park managers – each park is run by a different government agency – so the bureaucracy can seem overwhelming. But Fixer Brazil can help you over the many red tapes. We have a local team of locations managers and producers that will get things done.

Favela_FixerBrazil1

Fixer Brazil has helped many production companies to shoot in Rio de Janeiro, working with a local crew and providing the best logistic to film. From the urban Favelas to remote underwater shoots. We have local expertise to work with safety at the favelas and specialized people who know each corner of the “wonderful city”.

Fixer Brazil worked with Lonelyleap for the Google My Business films “Favela Brass” and “Hand Talk” . The five Americans from Lonelyleap joined FixerBrazil’s team that included the fixer, location manager, art director, drivers, first camera assistant, catering, for six days of production.

Fixer Brazil worked with Eyeforce and produced this video for KLM shoot in Rio.

When coming to Brazil to film we recommend that you bring all your gear as accompanied baggage with you in the same flight and declare them to the Customs (Receita Federal) as temporary admission of equipment or you can also use the ATA Carnet.

Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are the entrances for most of the foreign crews that come to film in Brazil. We also work with customs brokers in Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, in Rio, and GRU Airport in São Paulo. Depending on the amount of equipment imported, we will partner companies to get all the gear on time to film.

Renato Falzoni from 10e20 Filmes is an excellent fixer with in depth knowledge of the country. He is organised, determined and has a great ‘can do’ attitude. He was able to open doors that I thought were double padlocked, and quickly. I can highly recommend him.

“Brazil – A Natural History” is a 5 part series produced by Terra Mater Factual Studios for National Geographic.
10e20 Filmes was our partner in Brazil and they provided all the administrative and logistical support to produce this blue chip series. 10e20 Filmes proved to be a reliable partner with a passion for film making. On our next projects in Brazil I will certainly work with them again and I can recommend that you do the same, you will not be disappointed.
