FILMING IN NORTH
EAST BRAZIL
Northeast Brazil is a region of extraordinary visual diversity — from white-sand dunes and turquoise lagoons to colonial cities, arid deserts, coral reefs and vibrant coastal culture. It is a land of intense colors, strong identity and striking natural contrasts, making it one of the most cinematic regions of Latin America. Productions find in the Northeast a rich mix of landscapes, music, traditions and authentic communities.
Fixer Brazil has supported documentaries, branded content, adventure shoots and narrative films across states such as Bahia, Ceará, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Maranhão and Piauí. Our network of local fixers, cultural mediators and logistics specialists ensures that each production can explore remote nature, historic cities or bustling coastal capitals with full operational safety and cultural sensitivity.
OVERVIEW
Filming in Northeast Brazil means working across a region where climate, geography and heritage change dramatically within short distances. Desert-like dunes, tropical beaches, colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian culture, sertão landscapes and world-renowned festivals create endless possibilities for storytelling. Strong regional airports, experienced crews in major cities and reliable support infrastructure make it possible to execute productions of all scales while accessing visually unique locations.
VISUAL LANDSCAPE & KEY LOCATIONS
The Northeast offers some of the most iconic natural and cultural backdrops in Brazil:
• Lençóis Maranhenses: vast fields of white dunes and seasonal blue lagoons
• Historic Colonial Cities: Salvador, Olinda, São Luís and their UNESCO heritage centers
• Sertão Landscapes: rocky deserts, canyons and the atmospheric Caatinga biome
• Tropical Beaches & Reefs: Jericoacoara, Fernando de Noronha, Porto de Galinhas, Pipa
• Afro-Brazilian Culture & Architecture: vibrant streetscapes, traditions and festivals
• Urban Coastlines: Fortaleza, Recife and Natal for combined city + shoreline visuals
The region blends raw nature with deep cultural heritage, offering strong cinematic identity for both fiction and non-fiction productions.
CLIMATE & NATURAL LIGHT
The Northeast is known for some of the most stable and sunny weather in Brazil:
• Dry season (Jul–Dec) – long days, clear skies, minimal rainfall
• Rainy season (Feb–May) – soft diffused light and enhanced colors of vegetation
• Coastal winds ideal for kitesurfing, sailing and action shoots
The sunlight is intense, producing vibrant tones, high contrast and golden hours that are ideal for photography.
LOGISTICS & ACCESS
The region’s major production hubs include Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza, each with strong airports, domestic connections and access to high-quality services.
Fixer Brazil coordinates:
• 4×4 vehicles for dunes, desert areas and remote landscapes
• Boat operations for coastal and reef filming
• Drone and aerial permits
• Local guides and cultural liaisons
• Scout teams for remote or environmentally sensitive areas
For extremely remote territories such as Lençóis Maranhenses or the sertão, logistics require experienced planning — which our team provides from pre-production to wrap.
PERMITS, SAFETY & CULTURAL PROTOCOLS
Filming in protected parks, marine reserves, heritage cities and traditional communities requires specific permits. Afro-Brazilian cultural spaces, quilombola communities and Indigenous groups must be approached with respect and proper authorization.
Fixer Brazil handles:
• Environmental and heritage permits
• Coordination with local government and park authorities
• Community mediation and cultural briefings
• Safety planning for remote areas, dunes and high-temperature zones
We ensure responsible, respectful and legally compliant production practices across the entire region.
PRODUCTION SUPPORT & CREW
The Northeast has solid crew bases in Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza, including professionals experienced in documentaries, commercials, reality shows and international productions. Camera, lighting and grip equipment are available regionally, with additional resources shipped from São Paulo or Rio when required.
ACCOMMODATION & SERVICES
From boutique hotels in historic centers to beachside resorts and practical crew-friendly accommodations, the region offers a wide range of options. In remote areas such as Lençóis Maranhenses and sertão locations, Fixer Brazil arranges lodging, off-grid support, satellite communication and private transportation.

Strong, constant winds sweep the coast. The sea here is difficult and often dangerous. Those venturing out must have a good knowledge of sailing. And more than anything they must be able to manoeuvre the jangadas – these slender boats particularly effective at navigating across waves.
The ones able to do so are called Jangadeiros. They live in the north-east of Brazil. Luis lives in Canto Verde, a small village of 1000 people with an important community of fishermen.
